After Birth: Writing The Bad Mother — February 11th - March 18th

$999.00

Join Molly Rosen for a 5-week winter storytelling workshop for anyone grappling with motherhood in all its feral, tender, messy complexity—those who have babies, had babies, want to have babies; those raising teenagers or grown children; those who’ve lost pregnancies or children; and those who are still figuring out what “mother” even means.

This class is for writers who want to finally tell the story of birth, the story of a life, and the complicated relationships that shape us most. We’ll write about being a mother, having a mother, losing a mother, becoming a mother, resisting motherhood—and everything we aren’t “supposed” to say out loud. You’ll write your truth, build community, and release the shadow stories you’ve been carrying alone.

You’ll receive a syllabus featuring innovative memory prompts and longform essay assignments, take part in optional weekly live free-writes, and get feedback from a thoughtful group of like-minded creatives. You’ll strengthen your “memory muscle” and leave with a folder of new pages—raw material, scenes, fragments, and (very likely) a few pieces you’ll want to keep developing.

Each class is capped at 12 participants. Sliding-scale options are available to support a more diverse group. If the cost of this course exceeds your financial capacity, please email info@brooklynwriterscollective.com and we’ll do our best to accommodate you—if not this session, then a future one.

Wednesday Evening Workshops (7:00–9:30pm): Feb 11, Feb 18, Feb 25, Mar 3 (Tuesday), Mar 11
Monday Afternoon Writing Circles: Feb 16, Feb 23, Mar 2, Mar 9. Each student will recieve a one hour private with Molly during the course of the workshop.
