What's Your Story: Feb - Mar 2021
This six-week zoom workshop is designed to help you refine and revisit your writing with fresh eyes, a clear mind and a new set of narrative tools. This seminar is for writers looking to clear away psychic debris blocking their artistic process so they can kick off their storytelling practice full-on in the new year. In advance of class, we ask that you send thirty pages of your strongest work (don't worry if you don't have thirty pages, you can also send a painting you’ve made, a podcast you’ve produced, a hilarious drunken email you sent to an ex), along with a favorite short story or essay that you find inspirational. Using our robust syllabus (featuring articles, short stories, essays, podcasts and books by Alice Walker, Ocean Vuong, Cathy Park Hong, Jesmyn Ward, Raven Leilani, Vladimir Nabokov, Marguerite Duras and more), buddy system, groovy writing tenets and memory prompts, you’ll elevate and enhance old work or begin new work with a bang. This session we'll focus on how to craft scenes, integrate lyrical prose into creative tension, beginnings and endings and practicings radical empathy when exploring your characters' intentions. Class includes: twice weekly seminars, a workbook of creative meditations, and a one-on-one meeting with instructor Molly Rosen.
