Writing the Truth Retreat
Set amid the quiet magic of upstate New York, this immersive retreat blends creative mentorship with practical narrative strategy to help you transform lived experience into unforgettable writing. Together, we'll explore the stories we most want to tell—but are often most afraid to write: stories tangled in loyalty, grief, shame, desire, memory, and contradiction. The ones that ask us to risk honesty.
Surrounded by inspiring writers, we'll gather around farm tables and fire pits to write, read, and reconnect—fueled by good food, fresh air, and the first hints of autumn.
Each day begins slowly with breakfast, Tiny Story Hour, and a craft lecture before opening into long stretches of uninterrupted writing time. You'll have space to disappear into your work, along with one-on-one creative sessions with Molly and Margo to deepen your ideas and move your project forward. Afternoons bring us back together for workshops that are rigorous, generous, and deeply supportive.
Throughout the weekend, we'll alternate between generating new work and tackling the questions that keep writers stuck: How do you tell the truth without flattening complexity? How do you write about the people you love? How do you transform messy, lived experience into art? You'll leave with practical narrative tools, fresh pages, and the confidence to write the story only you can tell.
The goal is simple: step away from the noise, return to the page, and write with greater honesty, clarity, and courage.
In between sessions, there will be hikes, naps, wandering into town, shared meals, s'mores by the fire, and the slow intimacy that develops when a group of writers spends a weekend making something meaningful together.
